Latest doctor bits

I just got the call from my doctor about the blood test results. Y’all, check this shizzy:

  • Cell count good (no anemia)
  • Blood sugar good (no diabetes)
  • Kidney good
  • Liver - one of the enzymes is slightly elevated, but only slightly *
  • Thyroid normal
  • Cholesterol = 186
  • HDL (good) = 40 (40 and above is good; this will improve when i get pool access and can exercise again)
  • LDL (bad) = 126 (she said she likes to see it under 130, so that’s good times)

* - The bit about the liver: she was concerned that this could be due to the supplements i’ve been taking; it’s certainly possible, but i let her know that i have been taking a lot of tylenol & aleve as of late because of the sciatica. Yeah, i’ve been mixing them - sometimes it’s only a cocktail that actually works. Bleh. Either way: if the amitriptyline does what it’s supposed to do, i won’t be needing most of the supplements i’ve been taking, nor will i need nearly as many painkillers. Problem solved. Either way, we’ll test this again in a month or two and if it’s still elevated then we’ll go from there.

So yeah. Aside from the fibromyalgia? My health ain’t all that bad, after all.

Whodathunkit? Okay, i’m done with the health-related angstybits. Whee! We can now go back to our (ir)regularly scheduled body/fat acceptance bloggybits! :D

I hear you on those liver enzymes. Mine were elevated a few years ago because of an asthma med I was taking - Accolate. Once I was off the med they went down to normal again, but I’ve now been warned by the doc that my liver might not be able to handle things like Tylenol anymore, to just use half the dosage if I *really* need to take something.

Wait, so you don’t have diabetes. But you’re fat. I can just hear the sound of a million minds blowing across the world.

I had really bad night leg pains some months ago and the doctor prescribed amitriptyline. I didn’t take it because I looked it up and a bunch of bloggers said it made them gain weight (which may or may not be true) but it’s a good thing I didn’t. I was prescribed Adderall not long after by a different doctor and the two don’t mix well.

My doctor also warned me about mixing Tylenol and Aleve and taking either regularly when I had migraines. Apparently you can build up a resistance to them. Of course, my migraines were caused by yet another medication and stopped after I stopped taking it. Sheesh… sometimes I wonder if meds are worth all the side effects!

Anyway, hope yours works out for you!

Sounds like aside from the fibromyalgia, you’re in great shape…which is a sentence I never imagined I would type.

Still, congrats on such a good bill of health!

Glad to hear the results were good! I know that doesn’t necessarily help you FEEL better on a day-to-day basis… but it is nice to get a good bill of health anyway.

I’m just throwing this out there, but I had an elevated liver enzyme (alkaline phosphatase) a couple of years ago, so I started taking Vitamin D–because that was an easy thing to try and because I do wear sunscreen every day so it seemed possible I wasn’t getting enough–and the levels returned to normal. Now, I did undergo a fairly significant weight loss around the same time, so I’m not totally sure whether it was that or the Vit D or something else. But I just wanted to mention that.
